Lola Jane Spence, 85, of Washington, died Friday, April 4, 2014.
She was born April 16, 1928, in Moninger Heights, a daughter of Alvan H. Sage and Hazel Booth Sage.
Mrs. Spence graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and worked for Bell of Pennsylvania as an operator for 14 years.
Humor and compassion was the signature of her personality. She loved her family and friends deeply.
An avid sports fan, she loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and bowling. She adored singing, dancing and Big Band music.
Mrs. Spence had a strong faith in God and was a member of First Christian Church on Beau Street in Washington.
She was a faithful wife of 52 years to James Robert Spence, whom she married on July 21, 1950. He passed away on March 20, 2003.
Surviving are a son, J. Robert Spence II (Wendie) of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Tammy Richie (Kurt Schultz) of Scenery Hill; two grandchildren, Alecia Fincham (John) and Michael Richie.
Deceased are a daughter, Mary Ann Spence; and two brothers, Alvan Sage and Frank Sage.
Friends will be received on Monday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 8th, with Rev. Colleen Molinaro officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
