Dorothy Jane Lestan Caffrey, 92, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, in Washington County Health Center.
She was born May 5, 1921, in Washington, the daughter of the late Frank and Ursula Cotic Lestan. Dorothy was a 1939 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. She was involved in local theater groups and enjoyed plays at W & J College.
At one time, she was employed at Calcon Wire Company.
Dorothy enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles as well as country drives and gathering wild flowers. Gardening was another source of pleasure. Dorothy also loved to read and loved her pets. She made the best pies. Dorothy loved spending time with her two grandchildren and watching them play sports and going for walks.
Surviving are grandchildren Susan (Brian) Hamlin of Georgia and Michael (Carolyn) Jackson of Florida; daughters, Patricia Ann Caffrey of Washington, Louise (Dr. Bernie) Hewett of New Mexico and Jane (Arch) McKown of Maryland; two sons, David F. Caffrey of Washington and Dennis M. Caffrey of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren, Marlee, Alivia and Brice Hamlin and Joseph T. Jackson.
Dorothy was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are a brother, Michael Lestan; and sisters, Stephana Keener, Gizella Walker, Mary McCloskey, Frances Sisul, Ann Fonner and Margaret Bebout.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. Memorial donations may be made to Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330, or to a charity of choice.
