Sallie Leola Alrutz

  Sallie Leola Alrutz, 73 of Washington, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Allegheny General Hospital. She was born July 9, 1941 in Washington, the daughter of the late William Harry Carpenter and Florence Scott Carpenter.  Sallie graduated in the last class from Hickory High School in 1959. She also graduated from the Washington School of Nursing and Penn Commercial.  She was employed as a nurse manager at Canonsburg General Hospital for 30 years and worked at the state capital for five years as secretary for the Public Utility Commission and the Department of Education.  Her career as a nurse manager was important to her and she was sincere about helping all the patients as well as the employees. Her favorite time at the hospital was overseeing the medical surgical telemetry where she taught nurses to read heart telemetry monitors.  She was a member of Chartiers Cross Road Presbyterian Church and was an advocate for the CASA organization.  Sallie was a kind and loving person. She loved her dog “Star” with a passion. She kept a watchful eye over the well being of close friends and family. She was so grateful to her loyal friends constant support, especially Kathy, Shirley, Mitzi, Barb and her cousin Marcy. Her favorite time was relaxing at the beach and watching the lighthouses.  On September 4, 1984, she married Tom Alrutz who survives.  Also surviving are three sons, Tracy Magnelli of Washington, Tom (Janis) Alrutz Jr. of Washington, Richard K. Alrutz of San Angelo, TX; a daughter, Michelle Faye (Jeff) Laskowski of Canonsburg; a sister, Susan C. Amon of Washington; four grandchildren.  Deceased is her first husband Anthony Magnelli.  Friends will be received Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington. Services will be held Monday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Chartiers Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 502 Old Hickory Ridge Rd., Washington with Rev. Scott Bunting officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Prospect Cemetery.  Memorial Donations can be made to the Washington County Humane Society, P.O. 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
