Randy Rush, 66, of Washington, died on Sunday, May 25, 2014, in UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital, following a three-year illness.
He was born on July 7, 1947, in Washington, a son of the late, Randolph J. Rush, Jr., and Katherine Sampietro Rush.
Mr. Rush was a graduate of Washington High School.
For thirty-six years, he worked as a corrections officer and in psychiatric security at Mayview Hospital.
A Union member for 35 years, he was vice president, then president of District Council 84, then vice president of Council 13 AFSCME, where he served three terms as president, and retired as president.
He was a member of the Arden Club, the Slovak Club (Washington and Canonsburg), White Eagle, and Anawanna Club.
Mr. Rush played for the Arden Club Dartball Team, and for the Softball team for 45 years, managing the team until his death. In the late 1980’s, he managed the Slovak Softball Team, and in the 1990’s, he managed the Price’s Tavern Team.
On September 3, 1988, he married Ethel Yater, who survives.
Also surviving are 6 sons, Randolph J. (Meredith) Rush, IV, of Bentleyville, Todd (Lisa) Rush, of Houston, Jay (Mary) Rush, of Summerville, SC, Kevin (Colleen) Rush, of Cecil, Scott (Heather) Rush, of Washington, and Patrick (Yolanda) Rush, of Avella; a daughter, Theresa (Timmy) Hickle, of Lone Pine; 17 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
Deceased is a grandson.
Friends will be received on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 31, 2014, with Rev. Les Hutchins, Jr., officiating.
Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
