James Neil Marshman, 63, of Washington, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, in his residence, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 19, 1951, in Washington, a son of Anne Swartzfeger Marshman Vankirk of Washington and the late Russell Marshman.
Mr. Marshman was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from March 5, 1968, until his honorable discharge on June 11, 1970, with a rank of Lance Corporal. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Combat Action Ribbon, and Purple Heart Medal.
Mr. Marshman had worked at the Ball Glass factory and was a member of the VFW.
He loved life, his family, joking around, and watching his granddaughter play softball. Mr. Marshman also enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the Steelers, and listening to his son-in-law play the guitar.
On May 7, 1977, he married Donna Marshall, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a daughter, Dana (Steve) Huffman of Scenery Hill; a brother, Russell (Meranie) Marshman of Arizona; two sisters, Betty (Reed) Haney of Washington and Barb (Joseph) Novogradac of Washington; a granddaughter, Sarah Huffman; and his mother-in-law, Margaret Natoli of Washington.
Deceased are a daughter, Erica Marshman; a sister, Phyllis Jean Marshman; and stepfather, Jim Vankirk.
Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 3rd. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
