Francis P. Flynn, a lifelong resident of Washington, passed away on June 3, 2014, in Canton, Ohio.
He was born on October 22, 1924, in Monongahela and soon after moved to Washington.
After graduating from Immaculate Conception High School, Mr. Flynn entered the Army and served in the Philippines until January 1946. He was involved in battles and campaigns in New Guinea and South Philippines. For his service, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with two bronze battle stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Upon his return to civilian life, he attended Penn Commercial College and then worked as the front window clerk at the U.S. Post Office on West Maiden Street for several years. In addition, he also worked at the Meadows Race Track.
Mr. Flynn was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams and W&J Football and was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
On July 2, 1950, he married Alberta Coen, who passed away in December 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank P. and Catherine Lutz Flynn; a sister, Mrs. Marie (John R.) Slade; a brother, Bernard J. Flynn; and a nephew, John David Slade.
Surviving are a brother-in-law, Earl Coen of Canton, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Phyllis Flynn Lindley; and a loving host of nieces and nephews, Marilyn Slade Durban, Kevin, Brian and Daniel Flynn, Cynthia Flynn Clapper, Kathryn Coen Percival, Anita Coen and Mary Ann Coen Lutz.
A Blessing Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 7th, in the Chapel Mausoleum of Washington Cemetery, with Father Lou Pascazi officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.
Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Pot 175.
