U.S. Steel retiree, avid golfer
Robert J. Sliman, 81, of Washington, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born on June 17, 1932, in Washington, a son of the late Joseph Affif and Rose Arcuri Sliman.
Mr. Sliman graduated from Washington High School and received an Associate’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Sliman was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from September 27, 1950, until his honorable discharge as an Airman, on July 21, 1954. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean War Service Medal.
A member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, he retired from U.S. Steel Corporation as a Patent Illustrator.
Mr. Sliman was a member of the Edward Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, and the Alpine Club, and had formerly been a member of the Elks Club, Paleski Club, and the Pittsburgh Pirates Diamond Club.
He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed all sports, and he loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.
On September 26, 1959, he married Maureen Pesognelli, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa (Carl) Livingood, of Washington, a sister, Regina (Michael) Livelli, of McMurray; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Lexi Livingood; several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, John W., Edmund F., Aldo, and Thomas Sliman, and a sister, Amelia Faiella.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded graveside, by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
