Donald "Champ" Orville Iams

Donald O. “Champ” Iams, 73 of Washington, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Donnell House following an 8-month battle with lung cancer. He was born February 26, 1941 in Washington, the son of late Orville Iams and Eleanor Barney Iams. Mr. Iams was a graduate of Trinity High School Class of 1959 where they called him Duck. He then attended Penn Commercial Electronic School for 2 years. He was a paperboy at age 10 to 12 and worked for a gas station as a teenager, where he learned to work on cars. After high school he worked for John Myers as a sign builder and painter. He was employed at Federal paper Board, Coca-Cola Corp. and worked from 1964 to 2004 at Jessop Steel. Don was a member of Christian Church of North America, Sons of American Legion Post #175, National Rifle Association, Moose Lodge, Antique Auto Club of America, and Covered Bridge Car Club. He was a classic car enthusiast and owned a 1935 Show Car. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and hunted several times in Maine and Colorado. He previously co-owned Valley Land Stables for 10 years; he loved working on the farm with neighbors putting up hay. Throughout the years he enjoyed talking to family and spending Sunday’s and special occasions at the dinning room table. On June 2, 1961 he married Ilene Mazzie who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Donald M. (Kristen) Iams, Darrin M. (Tammi Underwood) Iams, Steven J. Iams two brothers David W. (Judy) Iams of Eighty Four, Robert G. (Danni) Iams of Washington; Four grandchildren, Donald W., Logan J., Kagin Michael, Lexin MaKenna. Deceased is a daughter, Emily. Friends will be received Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Wednesday, July 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rob Berk officiating. Burial will follow at Claysville Cemetery. The family is requesting casual dress for those attending.
