Melvin Howard Shoup, 92, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in Washington County Health Center.
He was born October 6, 1921, in Washington, a son of Harold M. Shoup and Hazel Bright Shoup.
He attended 5th Ward School and Washington High School.
Mr. Shoup was a World War II veteran of the Navy, serving in Pearl Harbor as an electrician on airplanes.
He worked at Washington Steel as a mechanic for 18 years and was owner of and mechanic at Russ and Mel’s Auto Repair for 10 years. In addition, he owned a radio and television repair shop.
He was a member of Chartiers Hill Church, where he served as a Trustee and Auditor, Washington Elks, Knights of Pythias, and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
On July 4, 1941, he married Grace Elizabeth Larkin, who died October 3, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Melvin D. Shoup (Carolyn) of Washington; a daughter, Carol Shrontz (Terry) of Fredonia, New York; grandchildren, Todd Shoup (Robin), Eric Shoup (Tammy), Terrilyn Meel (David), Sherriann Robinette (Dave); great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Hudson, Keely, Lexi and Fallyn Shoup, Zechariah, Noah, Rebekah and Terah Shoup, Caleb Meel, and Josiah and Bryson Robinette; step great-grandchildren, Jarred Lilley and Katie Odum.
Also surviving is his companion, Dora Coen.
Deceased is his brother, Floyd “Winnie” Shoup (Janet).
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 19th, with Rev. Donald Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
