Floyd Lee Kennedy

Floyd Lee Kennedy, 72, of Washington, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 20, 2014, following a lengthy illness, He was born June 12, 1942 in Washington the son of the Late Alberta (Dolly) May and Minor N. Kennedy and the grandson of the late Floyd and Mary M. Cooper. Mr. Kennedy was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved to work in his beautiful flower gardens. He enjoyed the many species of birds, feeding from his bird feeders. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He was a born again Christian, an active member of Wolfdale Bible Church where he held several offices. Floyd was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School. In 1960 he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Criminal Investigation Division until his honorable discharge in 1966. He was a graduate of Irene’s Beauty School and attended W & J College. He was a vested retiree of Jessop Steel Corporation, where he worked in personnel. He last worked at Washington Tool and Machine and the PA unemployment office. Floyd was a member of the American Legion Post #175, where over the years he served as Heart Fund Chairman. He was active with the YMCA membership drive and United Way fund raising. He was past President of Trinity Football Boosters. Mr. Kennedy was the Canton Cardinal Mascot for the Canton Girls Softball team. He was Larry the Lion in the Ministry puppets. He was always active in all his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He was their biggest and #1 cheerleader and everyone knew it. Floyd loved to talk to everyone and was so full of knowledge. Anyone who knew him, knew that he loved life and was a very kind person with a big heart and touched the lives of many. On July 27, 1963, in West Washington Methodist Church, he married his loving wife of almost 51 years, Mary Agnes Kennedy who survives. Also surviving are four children, Mark D. (Cindy) Kennedy of Smyrna, DE, Tracie Lynn (Carl) Fritz of Washington, Robin Renae Husman of Washington and Kory Lee Kennedy of Washington; his pride and joy, his five grandchildren, Alexandria C. and Kayla M. Kennedy, Connor W. and Mary F. Fritz, “His Boy” Cooper R. Husman, “adopted” granddaughter, Sydney Hennick; three brothers, Albert E. (Nancy) Kennedy of LaPlata, MD, Billie N. (Dorothy) Kennedy of Greensboro, PA, Ralph J. Kennedy of Washington, special brother in laws, sister in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Friends will be received Tuesday, July 22nd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd, 925 Allison Ave, Washington. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23rd from 11 to noon the time of service at Wolfdale Bible Chapel, 2025 Jefferson Ave, Washington with Rev. Fred Helmick officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175.
