Joseph Giacometti, 84 of Houston, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
He was born September 19, 1929 in Manifold the son of the late Joseph R. and Anna Jubas Giacometti.
Mr. Giacometti attended the Manifold and Laboratory Grade Schools. He graduated from Trinity High School, Class of 1947 and Penn Commercial College, Class of 1952.
He served 51 months in the U.S. Navy, 40 of which were served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Palau, attaining the rank of YN2, and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and an Occupation Medal.
Following 38 years of employment, he retired from McGraw-Edison (Cooper Power Systems) in 1994. He had previously been employed at the Observer Reporter Publishing Co., Duncan Miller Glass Factory and worked for Lou Hayes (Commissioner of PONY League Baseball), Beatty Buick and GMC Trucking Co.
He was a member of the American Legion (Houston), Cameron Wellness Center, Route 19 Senior Citizens Bowling League, Fountain of Life Church and the U.S.S. Palau (CVE122) Veterans Association.
Mr. Giacometti also enjoyed line dancing and polkas, traveling, crossword puzzles, gardening and doing things for others.
On September 14, 1957 in Meadowlands, he married Doris Hawkins who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy (Barry) Salsbury of Claysville, and Janice (Charles) Reynier of Washington; three grandchildren, Sean (Rebecca) Salsbury, Gina (Brian) George, Jenee’ Reynier; a great-granddaughter, Cadence Salsbury; a brother, Robert (Carole) Giacometti of Manifold, an uncle Joseph Jubas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents are two sisters who died in infancy.
Friends will be received Saturday, July 26th from 1 to 5 p.m. the time of service at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, with Pastor Todd Crouch officiating. Burial will be private.
