Katherine H. Vaughn

Katherine H. Vaughn (Katy), longtime resident of Washington and member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, died on August 3, 2014. She was 98 years old. She was the daughter of Clyde Hufford and Minnie Reese. For more than fifty years, Katy worked for I. Richman and Co., beginning as switchboard operator and rising to Executive Vice-President. She enjoyed modeling and travel. She belonged to Lone Pine Country Club and was an officer of the Washington Women's Club. She loved life! Katy was married to the late John M. Vaughn (Jack), who died in 1998. Also deceased are Katy's sister, Julia H. Fetherlin, and brother-in-law George Fetherlin. Katy is survived by two nieces and a nephew: Ruth (Dr. Richard) Grassel of Ambridge, PA; Nancy (Dr. Michael) Mattice of Vero Beach, FL; and Dr. Robert (Esther) Fetherlin of Greenwood, IN. Also surviving are one great niece and six great nephews. Katy was known by so many as a generous and faithful friend and a most gracious hostess, who loved to entertain guests in their home. She was a loving wife, a devoted daughter and a very dear sister. She was also a hard-working businesswoman who became an integral part of the successful company where she worked for 50 plus years. She was all of this and more, but to us, she was a beloved aunt who added the sparkle to our childhood. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. We loved you, Aunt Katy. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, August 17, at 3:30 pm at Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Katy to the Shriner's Children's Hospital would be welcomed.
