George Gafric, 101, of Washington, died on Friday, August 8, 2014.
He was born on August 22, 1912, in Meadowlands, a son of Frank and Ethel Robinsky Gafric.
He was Catholic by faith.
Mr. Gafric had worked as a coal miner at Westland Portal, and then retired from Rubber Rolls, Inc., in Meadowlands.
He was a founding member of the Fraternal Order of Bears, Den #83, in Meadowlands.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from April 10, 1942, until his honorable discharge on December 14, 1945. For his service, he was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, with one Bronze Service Star, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, with three Bronze Service Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.
On February 3, 1943, he married Agnes Gafric, who died on February 25, 2012.
Surviving are a granddaughter, Alyssa (Jeremy) Rozik, of Washington, and a daughter-in-law, Mary “Mimi” Gafric.
Deceased are a son, George Patrick Gafric, 4 sisters, Anna Gesiak, Emma Cimino, Mary Dubay, and Helen Heiney, and a brother, Frank Gafric.
George was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave., Washington, from 12 to 1 p.m., the time of a Blessing Service.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 Pa Route 136, North Strabane, PA 15330.
