Lenore Vankirk, 99 of Washington, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Washington Hospital. She was born August 1, 1915, in Grafton, WV, the daughter of the late Josiah Stansberry and Lydia Miller Stansberry Mrs. Vankirk was a glass packer at Hazel Atlas and Metro Glass and she also assembled grenades during WWII. She was a member of the Washington Alliance Church and enjoyed reading, playing cards and watching game shows on TV. On October 12, 1940 she married Marion F. “Pug” Vankirk who died January 13, 2002. Surviving are a son, Clifford (Regina) M. Vankirk of Prosperity; a daughter Nancy Murphy of Washington; nine grandchildren, Clifford and Christopher Vankirk, George and Michael Kover, William McBride, Wendy Irey, Lynn Brewer, Kimberly Chadwick and Michelle Parker; several great and great great grandchildren. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are, a daughter, Frances Parker, a son, Bill McBride; a son in law, Donald Murphy; two brothers, Joel and Clifford Stansberry; three sisters, Rilda Estep, Blondina Montgomery and Jean Beatty. Friends will be received Friday, August 22, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Robert Vankirk officiating. Burial will follow at Prosperity Cemetery.
