Thomas Oliver Rogers, Jr., 82, of Washington, died on Saturday, October 11, 2014, in the Donnell House. He was born on January 24, 1932, in Washington, a son of the late Thomas Oliver Rogers, Sr., and Mildred Louis Gatten Rogers. Mr. Rogers served with the Pennsylvania National Guard, from 1947 until 1949, the U.S. Navy, from 1949 until 1954, the U.S. Air Force, from 1956 until 1964, and finally with the U.S. Army Reserves, before retiring as a Sergeant Major, in 1991. His military career spanned more than 30 years. For his service in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He had worked for Pacific Southwest Airlines, California Central Airlines, and Allegheny Airlines, and then for GG&C Bus Company, for 20 years, before retiring as a Retention Officer in the Army Reserves in January, 1991. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Church of Christ. On January 9, 1960, he married Joan Baldwin, who survives. Also surviving, are a son, Thomas Oliver (Diane) Rogers, III, of Raleigh, NC, a daughter, Keri (Roger) Brown, of Newport News, VA, a sister, Sandra Witzeling, of Plano, TX, three grandchildren, Adam (Callie) Brown, Jason (Brittany) Brown, and Aaron (Mandi) Brown; four great grandchildren, Ethan Brown, Felicity Brown, Ashanti Brown, and Candice Brown; and his extended family members, H’Nair, and his wife, Zai Lian, and Chung Tha, Dawt and Tom Lian. Deceased, is his brother, Julian Rogers. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2014, with Roger Brown and David Deagel co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
