Lorenzo Dow Steele, 67 of Washington died Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at home.
He was born June 3, 1947 in Williamson, WV the son of the later James Steele Sr. and Lucy Robinson Steele.
Lorenzo served in the U.S. Army, where he received National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star and a Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.
He graduated from Williamson High School and received an Associate Degree from Southern West Virginia Community College. He was employed at the Mine Safety Health Administration, where he was an inspector and supervisor.
Lorenzo was a member of Chattaroy Missionary Baptist Church in Chattaroy, WV. He was also a member of the Williamson Masonic Blue Lodge #101, Charleston Scottish Rite, Syria Shrine and the Veterans Support Group in Wheeling, WV.
On March 1, 1969 he married Carol Browning who survives.
Also surviving are a son, John (Rebecca) Steele of Washington; a daughter Tammy (Gregory) Sawmelle of Washington; two brothers, William (Loretta) Steele of Georgia, Elbert (Nocha) Steele of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Julia Sawmelle, Jessica Sawmelle, Kyle Steele, Elizabeth Steele and Jacob Mikael Lorenzo Romey Sawmelle; many nieces and nephews all of whom had a special place in his heart.
Deceased are a brother, James Steele Jr.; three sisters, Della Chapman, Vonceal Triplett, Ella Norman.
Friends will be received Friday, October 17, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Saturday, October 18, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Shirley Edgar officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post Edwin Scott Linton Post #175. Burial will be at a later date.
