Joan S. Hartzell (Neely), 77, of Colorado Springs CO was granted her angel wings on October 15, 2014, surrounded by her family, at her home in Colorado Springs following a lengthy illness.
Joan was born in Claysville, PA on November 27, 1936, the daughter of the late George Neely. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and her “Precious” dog, Alvin. She was a graduate of Claysville High School class of 1955. On January 20, 1956 she married the love of her life, Edwin A. Hartzell, who survives. They celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage this year. Along with her husband, Joan is survived by her two daughters, Darla (Matt) Walden, and Kim (Eddie) Portillos, of Colorado Springs, two grandchildren, John E. (Erin) Ayre, Travis AFB, CA and Erica Hicks, Denver CO., and two great-grandchildren, Jonah Matthew Ayre and due in February, Autumn Joan Ayre. She is also survived by her twin sister, Jean Murner, Claysville PA, cousin, Alan Daugherty, Jacksonville, FL as well as many deeply loved nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday, October, 23rd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 24th. Burial to follow in West Finley Cemetery with a friends and family gathering to follow.
