Kenneth Roy Bryner, 95 of Washington, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at Hawthorne Woods.
He was born June 5, 1919 in Scottdale, Westmoreland County, the son of the late Roy and Celia Clark Bryner.
He attended grade school in Connellsville and graduated from Washington High School in 1938. He also attended Duquesne University.
Kenneth was a U.S. Army sergeant Grade T/4 in the Field Artillery, where he served in England, Africa and Italy. He received three Bronze Stars for the Battles of Tunisia with General Patton, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno including the Battle of Cassino.
After the fall of Rome, he became a member of the Rome Allied Command Band, formed by soldiers from combat units of the fifth Army who had participated in the battles leading to the capture of Rome.
In 1952 he married Ilah Yoders who died in 1994.
He was employed as a mechanical draftsman by the Pennsylvania Transformer Co., which became McGraw Edison Co. and then as a field engineer with the Columbia Gas Transmission Corp.
He was active professionally in music before the war and later as an avocation and retained a life long appreciation and enjoyment of music.
He was a 84 year member of First Baptist Church of Washington.
Surviving are a brother, Edsel Bryner of Washington; nieces and a nephew including, Wray Vankirk, Sandra Warman, Cheryl McMillen, Debora Andy, Rebecca Phinney and his beloved friend, Rose who shared a strong faith in God.
Deceased is a sister, Nurella Vankirk.
A graveside service will be held at Washington Cemetery on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Dunlap officiating. Arrangments are being handled by William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington.
