Charles Edward Springer, Sr.

Charles Edward Springer, Sr., 75, of Houston, died on Saturday, November 1, 2014, in his residence, following a one-year illness. He was born on April 11, 1939, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Harry T. and Thelma Ruth Day Springer. A graduate of Washington High School, he was a member of Chartiers Hill United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Springer worked as a meter reader for thirty-nine years, at Columbia Gas, where he was a member of the Century Club. He enjoyed Meadows Horse Racing, and had worked for 15 years as a horse tester at the track. He loved high school wrestling, and following his grandsons’ matches. On June 18, 1960, he married Marcianna L. Randolph, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles E. (Bridget) Springer, Jr., of Philadelphia, and William L. (Judy) Springer, of Kansas City, KS; a daughter, Margaret R. (Michael) Fritch, of Pittsburgh; five brothers, Harry Springer, of Smyrna, DE, Steve Springer, of Hagerstown, MD, Bruce Springer, of Whittier, CA, Pete Springer, of San Diego, CA, and Wayne Springer, of Virginia Beach, VA; nine grandchildren, Charles E. Springer, III, Shane Springer, Michael Springer, Luke Springer, Samantha Springer, Nichole Springer, Elizabeth Springer, Austin Fritch, and Katie Mageeney; and two great grandchildren. Deceased is a sister, Ruth Ann Springer. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2014, with Pastor Joe DiDonato officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
