William “Jack” Jackson Armstrong, 90 of Mount Lebanon, formerly of Washington died Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Washington Hospital.
He was born October 3, 1924 in Washington, the son of the late William Armstrong and Pearl Prigg Armstrong.
Jack graduated from Trinity High School in 1942.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1943 to 1946, where he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
Jack was a storekeeper and purchasing agent for Washington Steel for 30 years both in Washington and Houston.
He was a member of Fourth United Presbyterian Church and a life member of the Alpine Club, Bears Club and the Elks. He was the oldest member of the Dormont Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In 1945 he married Lucy Salamone who died in 2004.
Surviving are a son, Phil (Janis) Armstrong of Washington; a daughter, Jodi (Jesse) McNurlen of Washington; a sister, Helen Holtsclaw of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Scott Armstrong, Leah Billie, Bethany Anderson, Jessica Fuchs; six great grandchildren, Tyler and Lauren Billie, Austin and Isabella Armstrong, and Avery and Emery Anderson.
Friends will be received Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd, 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Washington Cemetery at a later date.
