James G. Wescott

James G. Wescott, 89, of Washington, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Country Meadows Nursing Facility in Bridgeville. He was born September 21, 1925, in Scranton, the son of the late Ralph and Helen Wescott. Mr. Wescott was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II, 95th Infantry Division, under General Patton, Jr. one of the Legendary “Iron Men of Metz”. Upon his discharge he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Opferman on June 14, 1947, who survives. It was a beautiful union of love and respect for 67 years. He received a degree in Advertising from Pittsburgh Art Institute and started his own advertising company, Corporate Marketing in Pittsburgh, which specialized in advertising for Westinghouse, until his retirement. Mr. Wescott lived most of his life with his wife and family in Peters Township, where he was a member of St. Benedict the Abbott. He was an exceptional woodworker, specializing in Intarsia. He was a patient fisherman, avid bowler and was always lost in a good book. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Barbara (Leonard) Rugiel and Martha Nagy; two sons, Michael (Rosie) Wescott and Neal Wescott; eight grandchildren, Leonard (Michelle) Rugiel, Lisa Humphreys, Elizabeth (Barry) Steede, Lauren (Stephen) Clarke, Grant Wescott, Linsey Wescott, Jamie Wescott and Connor Wescott; eight great grandchildren, Andrew, Hailey and Joshua Humphreys, Lenny and Avery Rugiel, Matthew and Andrew Clarke and Bay Steede; and his faithful companion, Toby. Deceased in addition to his parents are a daughter, Nancy Jo Wescott; a sister Francis Klein; a brother, Ralph Wescott. Friends will be received Tuesday, December 2, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington where services will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 12- noon. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
