Jesse Roger Polen

Jesse Roger Polen, 85, of Weirton, West Virginia, died Sunday, December 14, 2014. He was born October 5, 1929, in Ryerson Station, Greene County, a son of Fred L. Polen and Hazel Irene Cunningham Polen. Mr. Polen graduated from Richhill High School and worked for Columbia Gas for 42 years, retiring as a supervisor. He was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church and an honorary member of Mt. Pleasant Township Fire Department. Mr. Polen enjoyed gardening, traveling, bird watching, square dancing and golf. Surviving are his wife of nearly 64 years, Shirley Ann Polen, whom he married in Winchester, Virginia on December 23, 1950; one son, Gary L. (Tamara) Polen of Hooper, Utah; two daughters, Carla Carr of Coraopolis and Karen Garland of Clinton; a sister, Margaret Bayard of Waynesburg; and five grandchildren, Derrick Polen, John M. Ryniawec III, Taylor Ryniawec, Kelly Carr and James Carr. Deceased is a brother, Richard Polen. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 19th, with Pastor Bill Stout officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
