Theodore Carl Carlson

Theodore Carl Carlson, 80, of Washington, died on Sunday, January 11, 2015, in the Washington Hospital. He was born on March 20, 1934, in Monongahela, a son of the late Theodore John and Viola Rose Carlson. A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the Korean War, from January 20, 1954, until his Honorable Discharge on November 22, 1957. For his service, he was awarded the National defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On May 11, 1957, he crossed the Equator on the USS Bennington, and became a member of the “Brotherhood of Golden Shellbacks.” Mr. Carlson received his Master’s degree from Temple University. He was the Superintendent of the California School District. A member of First Christian Church, he was also a long time member of the Rotary International Club, where he was proud to be a Paul Harris Fellow. On August 25, 1955, he married Margaret Crossley, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Edward John (Rose) Carlson, of Washington, and Theodore Eric (Carolyn) Carlson, of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Natalie Carlson, and Trent (Jenna) Carlson, both of Washington; Jonathon and Sarah Carlson, both of Lancaster; two step grandchildren, Amy (Curtis) Price, and Adam Cross, both of Washington; a great grandchild, Layton Michael Wright; and three step great grandchildren, Jaxon, Lucas and Cooper Price. Deceased are a brother, Clifford Carlson and two sisters, Evelyn DeJulius and Edna Parquette. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 15, 2015, with Pastor Stephen Smythers officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the National cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, 615 E. Beau St., Washington, PA 15301.
