Richard J. "Honey Hush" Barnes

Richard J. “Honey Hush” Barnes, 86 of Washington, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Washington Hospital. He was born July 28, 1928 in Washington the son of the late Jack Thomas Barnes and Margaret Irene Anderson Barnes. Richard graduated from Washington High School in 1948 after attending St. Hilary School through middle school. He was a machine operator at Washington Steel for 30 years. Richard was a member of St Hilary Roman Catholic Church. He was a Navy Champion Boxer in Japan 1953 and played semi-pro football for the Washington Generals for 14 years. He enjoyed fishing, the racetrack and all sports. On July 4, 1982 he married Delores Mae Vaden who died on February 25, 2005. Surviving are three sons, Richard (Rhonda) Barnes of Washington, with whom he made his home, Lawrence “Lonnie” Barnes of Washington, Joe Barnes of Washington; four daughters, Patty Barnes of Washington, Margaret Walker of Uniontown; Deborah Johnson of Baltimore, MD, Donna Lee of Baltimore, MD; a stepdaughter, Nadine Vaden of Washington; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Richard T. Barnes; three stepchildren, Jackie Vaden, Donna Vaden and Eddie “Diddy” Vaden; a sister Margaret “Reenie” Thompson. Friends will be received Friday, March 27, 2015 from 2 to 6 p.m. the time of service at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington. Burial will be held at a later date in Washington Cemetery.
