Born on January 25, 1923, in Elkins, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Jess and Margaret Flint.
She married Stanley T. Shankovich on August 5, 1942, in Winchester, Virginia. He passed away on May 27, 1998.
Surviving are her children, Margaret “Peggy” Shankovich, with whom she made her home, Linda Craig, Richard (Deborah) Shankovich, and Phyllis (Gary) Irey; seven grandchildren, Darcie (Bob) Glendenning, Dea (Derrick) Jaber, Anthony (Jessie) Shankovich, Clarissa (Brandon) Henry, Regina (Brandon) Evans, Rich (Tonya) Irey, and Michele (David) Stahl; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell Flint; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, James Flint; and sisters, Vivian McCarthy, Virginia Diamond, and Lucy Wade.
Lib worked at Hazel Atlas Glass Company and as a cafeteria worker in the Washington School District. She was a member of Glenn Street Free Methodist Church.
It was the simple things in live that she never took for granted. She adored her large family, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren warmed her heart. She will forever be remembered for her cozy home – whether from the warmth and scent of her excellent cooking and baking or her loving, gentle soul.
Lib also had a passion for animals, word searches and reading. It’s possible she owned every Chicken Soup for the Soul book ever written. She also loved her beautiful state of West Virginia.
Lib was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after passing from this life. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:1-2.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 29th, with Rev. Robert Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
