Rose Marie Wescott

August 17, 1925 — July 26, 2015

Rose Marie Opferman Wescott, 89, previously from McMurray PA, passed on July 26, 2015 at Country Meadows Nursing Facility in Bridgeville PA. She was born on August 17, 1925 in Castle Shannon, the daughter of Joseph Valentine Opferman and Stella Marie Pifer Opferman. Rose Marie was the 8th of 11 children and the last of her immediate family. Rose Marie grew up on a farm in Castle Shannon and was known by her large family as “Poey”. She attended Bethel High School, but quit her Senior year to work at Bell Telephone. She met her future husband, James G. Wescott, on a blind date set up by her brother, Eugene. Jim and Rose Marie were married on June 14, 1947, eventually moving to McMurray when Jim got an Advertising job in Pittsburgh. It was in McMurray where they resided for most of their years. Rose Marie worked as a housekeeper and a cook at the rectory of St. Benedict the Abbott Catholic Church in Peters Township and part time for Sew With Knits. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes as well as her husband’s suits. She was very active in making porcelain dolls and their clothes, at one time having over 65 dolls completed and displayed around the house. She was always busy doing a craft, from quilting to needlework. She was an awesome cook and an avid reader. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (Leonard) Rugiel, and Martha Nagy; two sons, Michael (Rosie) Wescott, and Neal Wescott, eight grandchildren, Leonard (Michelle) Rugiel, Lisa Humphreys, Elizabeth (Barry) Steede, Lauren (Stephen) Clarke, Grant (Melissa) Wescott, Lindsey Wescott, Jamie Wescott and Connor Wescott, nine Great Grandchildren, Andrew, Hailey and Joshua Humphreys, Lenny and Avery Rugiel, Matthew and Andrew Clarke and Bay and “Baby” Steede. Surviving also is her faithful companion Toby. Deceased in addition to her parents are her husband Jim, who passes November 28, 2014, a daughter, Nancy Jo Wescott at the age of 20, and 10 siblings; Arthur Opferman, William Opferman, Rita White, Grace Opferman, Joseph Opferman, Esther Hoch, Eugene Opferman, Thomas Opferman, Michal Opferman and John Opferman. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015 at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington where services will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. Burial is private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
