Charles E. Mccormick

Charles E. McCormick, 93, of Washington, died Sunday, October 18, 2015, in his home. He was born August 29, 1922, in Claysville, a son of Elmer L. and Bessie E. Gleason McCormick. Mr. McCormick graduated from Morris Township High School. He owned and operated McCormick Roofing & Heating for 15 years and retired from Port Authority of Allegheny County in 1985 after 30 years as a streetcar driver. He began his motorman career in Washington, driving streetcars in the early 1950’s. During World War II, he served in the Army as a Technician, fifth grade, with the 761st Field Artillery Battalion in Central Europe. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Mr. McCormick was a fifty-year member of West Washington United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and trustee. In addition, he was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Charleroi, the Buffalo Grange, and Washington Streetcar Men’s Association. On October 26, 1947, he married Irma L. Carpenter, who died July 28, 2004. Surviving are a daughter, Marna (Jim) Hicks of Washington; a son Sean (Sandy) McCormick of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Lorri McCormick of Washington; granddaughters, Erin (Thomas) Helmkamp of Avella, and Amber McCormick of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandson, Ryne McCormick, Sr., of Cincinnati; great-granddaughters, Nadia Helmkamp and Ryann McCormick; great-grandsons, Braeden Helmkamp and Ryne McCormick, Jr.; and a sister, Etola Pratt of Cleveland, Ohio. Deceased are a son, Kevin McCormick; grandson, Preston McCormick; brothers, Elmer, Edgar, Lee, and Harold; and sisters, Elsie Migacz and Martha Day; and four brothers who died in infancy. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 22nd, with Rev. Ross Pryor officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Memorial contributions may be made to West Washington United Methodist Church, 625 Fayette Street, Washington, PA 15301.
