Clair Haas

Clair Haas, 87, of Washington, died Friday, March 11, 2016, in the Washington Hospital. He was born December 18, 1928, in Washington, a son of Raymond Allen Haas and Sarah Grandstaff Haas. Mr. Haas was a 1946 graduate of Washington High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He worked for Jessop Steel for 46 years, retiring as the tool steel sales manager. Mr. Haas was a 75-year member of Third United Presbyterian Church and a life member of Elks Lodge 776. In addition, he was a member of Jessop Management Association, the Pulaski Club, and Jessop’s Bowling League. An avid sports fan, he loved golfing and billiards, and enjoyed his time as the centerfielder for the Tri-State Baseball Team. On December 1, 1949, he married Kathryn L. Mazzie, who died June 4, 2001. Surviving are two sons, Raymond Clair Haas, Jr., (Candace) and Douglas Haas (Brenda), both of Richmond, Texas; two daughters, Judith Flintoff (Michael) of Okemos, Michigan and Melissa Hixon (Daniel) of Stewartsville, New Jersey; a brother, Harry Haas (Mary Kay) of Canonsburg; a sister, Mary A. Haas of Houston; two brothers-in-law, Donald Mazzie (Peggy) of Washington and Louis Mazzie (Christine) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Arianne and Stephen Flintoff and Benjamin, Eliana and Ava Hixon. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at Noon, Wednesday, March 16th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington City Mission, 84 West Wheeling Street, Washington PA 15301.
