Harold C. Glaum

Harold C. Glaum, 92, of Avella, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in his home following a brief illness. He was born March 23, 1924, in Avella, a son of the late C. Russell and Nettie R. Glaum. On August 26, 1961, he married Louise Ellen Zimmerman. Mr. Glaum was a 1943 graduate of Washington High School and attended Penn Commercial. He entered the service on January 9, 1946. Cpl. Glaum was an Administrative Specialist 502 in communications with the U.S. Army Air Force, spending most of his service based in New Foundland. He was very proud to have received the bronze Victory Medal and to display it along with the medals from his great-grandfather, Caleb Jackson of Hundred, West Virginia, who served as a Union soldier. Mr. Glaum loved people and touched the lives of many in the community. He retired as a salesman for Coen Oil Company, where he worked for 23 years. He was previously employed by Pittsburgh Coal, Federal Paper and Montgomery Ward. As a young man he operated the Glaum Service Station and Grocery Store on Brush Run Road, Avella. He loved ancestry research, travel, antiquing and spending time with friends and family. His faith in God and sharing that faith was very important to him. He was a member of Central Assembly of God in Houston, and had a lifetime involvement in Christian organizations including the Gideon’s International, Child Evangelism, Christian Workers, and Youth for Christ. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Louise Glaum of Avella; a daughter, Cynthia Marie (William) Speer of Houston; a son, Eric Charles (Margarita) Glaum of Avella; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn M. Speer of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Natalya R. Glaum of Washington, Kelsey N. Speer and Matthew J. Speer, both of Houston, Carina M., T. Maverick and Milana V. Glaum, all of Avella. Deceased is a sister, Evelyn Meloy. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A celebration of life service will be held at Central Assembly of God, Houston, at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 13th. Interment in Upper Buffalo Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Assembly of God, Children’s Ministry, 155 McGovern Road, Houston, PA 15342.
