Edward Charles “Mr. Po” Popeck, 81, of Washington, died on Thursday, May 11, 2017, in the Washington County Health Center.
He was born on December 11, 1935, in Wyano, PA, a son of the late Charles John and Josephine Zastawinak Popeck.
Edward was a graduate of Washington High School.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Popeck served until his honorable discharge on November 16, 1960.
Mr. Popeck was a thirty-year employee of the United States Postal Service, where he had worked as a mail carrier.
He was raised in the Catholic faith.
Edward enjoyed bowling, and in 1967, he was champion in the Postal League. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and gardening. After playing baseball in high school, he was the pitcher on the Army Team, and then played on the American Legion Team, and local adult leagues.
He was a member of the Pulaski Club, where he had previously held office.
Mr. Popeck was a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
On October 10, 1958, he married Jane Davis, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Edward R. Popeck, of Washington, John C. (Tracee) Popeck, of Washington, twin sons, Robert D. Popeck, of Houston, and Richard D. Popeck, of Washington; a sister, Charlotte Haught, of Washington, two grandchildren, Allyson and Erin Popeck; and several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, May 15, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, where services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 9:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m., in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military Rites will be accorded graveside, by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
