J. Wendell Hoop, 84, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in Kade Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born May 29, 1926, in Allegheny County, a son of George A. Hoop Sr. and Margery E. Deffenbaugh Hoop.
Mr. Hoop was a 1944 graduate of Hickory High School, where he was class president, and a 1950 graduate of University of Pittsburgh.
From 1944 to 1946, he served in the United States Navy. During his service he was stationed aboard the USS Guam.
Mr. Hoop was a plant manager for Canada Dry for 20 years as well as a salesman at Tomsic Oldsmobile-Cadillac for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and flowers. Later in life he enjoyed making stained glass items as gifts for others. Mr. Hoop loved his children and grandchildren who will miss his great sense of humor.
He was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church and a 50-year Masonic member.
Surviving are two sons, J. Bradley Hoop and Douglas Hoop of Minnesota; a daughter, Karen Dolan of Minnesota; five grandchildren, Brenton, Nathan and Kelly Kane, Shawn Hoop and Jeffrey Hoop; and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are his former wife, Marlene Asbe; and three brothers Willard Hoop, Darwin Hoop and George Hoop Jr.
Friends will be received on Thursday, August 5th, from 1 to 2 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
