Victor Wilson Mitchell, Jr., 92, of Washington, died on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Presbyterian Senior Care, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 25, 1918 in Colerain, Ohio, a son of Victor Wilson, Sr. and Olive Lucille Cope Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell was a very active member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, participating on various committees, and serving as an usher. He also volunteered with Washington Christian Outreach.
He was a graduate of Wellsburg High School and West Virginia Business College.
He worked as a salesman for Jewel Tea Company, from 1963, until his retirement, and annually won awards for top salesman.
Mr. Mitchell enjoyed playing dart ball, fishing and watching Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball. He was an avid gardener and handyman, who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On February 25, 1952, he married Mary Rose Shahan, who died on June 2, 1995.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth P. (Betty) Mitchell, of Savannah, GA; 2 daughters, Dr. Victoria (Joseph) Tomasek, of Verona, NJ; and Deborah Berry of Washington; 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Keith, Michele, Mitchell, Julia, Shawna and Shay; 5 great-grandchildren, Cole, Shelby, Connor, Drew and Nathan; and long time companion, Viola K. Smith.
Deceased are 2 sisters, Elizabeth Stewart and Edith Mauck.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. John Hoffman officiating.
Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
