Evelyn Glaum Meloy

November 20, 1920 — August 23, 2010

Evelyn Glaum Meloy, age 89, formerly of Avella, PA, passed away Monday, August 23 in Boardman OH after a struggle with cancer. Evelyn was born November 20, 1920 in Blaine Township to Russell and Nettie Glaum. On June 8, 1940 Evelyn married Willard Carl Meloy and they raised their family in the house that he built for them on Brush Run Road . In 1966, the Meloys opened their home to their friends for a Bible study, and Grace Bible Church in West Middletown (and subsequent Christian School ) was born. Mrs. Meloy’s passion for music and love for the Lord combined into a lifelong ministry as she played the piano and organ at the church for 35 years, became “Grandma” to the church children, and spiritual mother to the ladies in the church. She was well known in the community for hosting picnics on their property and extending gracious hospitality on their porch and at their dinner table. Over the years, Evelyn has entertained hundreds of guests: foreign missionaries, traveling evangelists, singing groups, neighbors and family. Her simple home, known for lighting up the dark country road, was a place of laughter, music, feasting, worship and friendship. The delight at being invited into her home was surpassed only by the love that guests felt as they left. Evelyn was precious to her husband, adored by her children, and dearly loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved. Her greatest joy came from hearing that her grandchildren had turned to Christ and trusted in Him as Savior. They will fondly remember her as a woman who knew them intimately and prayed daily for each of them by name. Evelyn’s sweet influence on her family will be felt for generations. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 70 years, Willard Carl Meloy of Boardman OH; her children Richard (Deanna Schultz) Meloy of Pensacola FL, Marlene Capo of Middletown OH, Karen and Darrell House of Boardman OH, James (Cynthia Kimball) Meloy of Burgettstown PA; twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; brother Harold (Louise Zimmerman) Glaum of Avella PA; one niece, one nephew, two great-nephews, and five great-nieces. Deceased are her parents, Russell and Nettie Glaum, son-in-law James Capo, and four infant grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the William G. Neal Funeral Home, 395 E. Maiden St. , Washington . The service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Grace Bible Church , West Middletown with visitation 1 hour preceding the service. Interment will be in the Buffalo Cemetery .
