Willis D. Shriver, Jr., 82, of Taylorstown, died on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Donnell House, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 19, 1928, in Vienna, West Virginia, a son of Willis D., Sr. and Opal Stollar Shriver.
Mr. Shriver was a general contractor, doing home remodeling.
He was a member of Taylorstown Christian Church.
Mr. Shriver was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army, during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 12, 1947. For his service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a lifetime member of the Taylorstown VFD. He enjoyed square dancing, country music (especially Bluegrass music), woodworking, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
On February 25, 1950, he married Patricia Miller, who survives.
Also surviving is a son, Richard D. (Janet) Shriver, of Taylorstown; a daughter, Marcy (Warren) Pope, of Taylorstown; 4 brothers, Donald Shriver, of Claysville; Joseph and Gerald Shriver, both of Taylorstown and Larry Shriver, of Washington; 3 grandchildren, Brett M. and Heath A. Shriver and Matthew J. Pope; 6 great-grandchildren, Mattalyn, Morgan, Aspin, Penelope, Cole and Gaberiel.
Deceased are a daughter, Wanda Shriver; two brothers, Duane and Richard Gene Shriver; and a granddaughter, Carrie L. Shriver.
Friends will be received Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, PA. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
