Local 3 ironworker was WWII veteran Hallie Eugene (Gene) Morris Sr., 83, of Washington, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born July 30, 1927, in Washington, a son of Hallie William and Pearl A. McQuay Morris. Mr. Morris worked as a union ironworker with Local 3. He was a proud union member, having worked in 47 states. He was a fireman first class with the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, until his honorable discharge July 21, 1946. For his service, he was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Morris was a former member of Christian Gathering Church. He enjoyed hunting and antique cars and spending time in the outdoors. On May 3, 1948, he married Pearl M. Casterline, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Hallie E. (Diana) Morris Jr. of Claysville; and two sisters, Marilyn Paul and Phyllis Mason, both of Washington. Deceased is a brother, Robert William Morris. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 29. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington Christian Outreach, 119 Highland Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
