William H. Dhayer, 80, of Washington, died Saturday. December 11, 2010, in the Washington Hospital, with his family at his side. He was born October 11, 1930, in Avella, a son of James and Mary Ihnot Dhayer. Mr. Dhayer graduated from Trinity High School in 1949. On March 28, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army, and was awarded the rank of Sergant, receiving the Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and an Honorable Discharge on March 12, 1955. He worked at Washington Steel as a roller for thirty-five years. Mr. Dhayer was a member of St. John the Baptist Byantine Rite Catholic Church of Avella. He was an avid Notre Dame and Steeler fan. He would go to South Bend to attend the Pitt – Notre Dame games. Mr. Dhayer enjoyed his home and was a great handyman. He was very good at building, electrical work, and repair work. “He was a Jack of all Trades.” On December 27, 1952, he married Patricia Pruce, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah (Tom) Howard, of Cecil Township; a son, William Michael Dhayer, of North Strabane Township; a brother, James R. (Regina) Dhayer, of Washington; a granddaughter, Stacy Howard and her fiancée, Jason, of Oakdale, and a grandson, Stephen (Jessie) Howard, of Bethel Park; a brother-in-law, Charles Seik, of Washington, and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Dorothy Seik. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with a Parastas Service held at 8:00 p.m. A Panahida Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2010, in the funeral home. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Avella, with Father Edward Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John section of West Point Cemetery, Avella. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 176 Cross Creek Road, Avella, PA 15312, or the American Heart Association, 777 Penn Center Boulevard, Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
