Dr. Barry Coulter Betts, 56, of Chartiers Township, died unexpectedly, Friday, May 7, 2010.
He was born August 12, 1953, in Barnesville, Ohio, a son of Richard Gibson “Gibby” and Corinne Peters Betts of Barnesville.
Mr. Betts was a graduate of Ohio State University, where he was a member of Gamma Chapter of Omega Tau Sigma.
He was an Ohio State fanatic and enjoyed all things sports -- horse racing, Pittsburgh sports teams, attending his children’s games and coaching.
An equine veterinarian, Dr. Betts owned and operated Hickory Ridge Equine Clinic for 30 years and was a member of A.A.E.P., American Association of Equine Professionals. Dr. Betts held a private pilot’s license.
He was Methodist by faith.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Kimberly Sue Betts, whom he married February 25, 1988; and three sons, Timothy Gibson Betts, Andrew Coulter Betts and Scott Richard Betts, all of Washington.
Deceased is a sister, Cynthia Betts Austin.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12th, in Church of Christ, 700 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Joe DiDonato officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Betts' name to Washington County Community Foundation, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
