Joseph Louis Mikus, Sr., 82, of Houston, PA, died on May 25, 2010, in the Allegheny General Hospital Neuro-Intensive Care Unit, with his family by his side.
He was born on October 7, 1927, in Meadowlands, PA, a son of the late Stephen and Mary Taufer Mikus.
Mr. Mikus served with the United States Navy, during WWII, in the Pacific and American Theaters. For his service, he was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a charter member of Miraculous Medal Church.
Mr. Mikus worked for 40 years as a tool and dye maker for General Motors and the Fisher Body Plant.
He was a member of the VFW Post 191, in Canonsburg, and the Independent Club in Houston, PA.
He enjoyed his family, gardening, beaches in the Summer, and watching Pittsburgh Steelers Football.
On August 5, 1952, he married Jo Ann Reese, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Joseph Mikus, Jr., of Houston; Candace (Paul) Phillips, of Cecil; a sister, Helen Mavrich, of Canonsburg; and 2 grandchildren, Jordan Mikus and Cory Amos.
Deceased is a daughter, Tracy Lynn Mikus, who died in 1977; a brother, Stephen Mikus and a sister, Mary Ozarowski.
At the request of the deceased, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
