William Richard McCombs, 76, of Washington, died Saturday, September 30, 2006, in Donnell House, Washington. He had been ill since July.
He was born April 1, 1930, in Washington, a son of Boyd Everette and Bertha Louise McNeal McCombs.
He attended Washington High School.
Mr. McCombs served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War in the Pacific Theater on the USS Triton Nuclear Sub, the Navtracen, Great Lakes, Ill., USS Petrel (ASR-14) and U.S. Naval Station, Key West, Fla. He served as a fireman and salvage diver and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. McCombs was an operator at Ball Glass for 20 years.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191, Independent Club, FOE 687, Union Lodge 31 F&AM, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion, Legion Home Association Inc. and Houston American Legion Post 902.
Surviving are a son, Russell William (Dawn) McCombs of Farmington, N.Y.; two daughters, Billie Jo Lamere of Chesapeake, Va., and Pamela Lynn McCombs of Houston; a brother, Boyd L. McCombs of Dayville, Conn.; six grandchildren, Holly, Benjamin and Adam McCombs, Joshua Hilbert and Rachel and Erik Lamere.
Deceased are two sisters, Delores Lemon and Margaret Sava; and a brother, Russell McCombs.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the hour of service, Monday, October 2, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, 357 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301.
