Mildred D. Carpenter, 76, of Washington, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, in Washington Hospital. She had been in declining health the past four months.
She was born March 26, 1930, in Wellsburg, W.Va., a daughter of Howard and Doris Jennifer Miller Degarmo.
Mrs. Carpenter graduated from Washington High School in 1947 and was a member of Church of the Covenant in Washington.
She graduated from Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 and was a registered nurse at Washington Hospital from 1951 to 1996. She was a member of Washington Hospital Nurses Association and School of Nursing.
Mrs. Carpenter enjoyed reading, dancing and attending Washington Hospital's Charity Ball.
On April 28, 1951, she married Glenn D. Carpenter, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Danny James (Kim) Carpenter of South Bend, Ind.; three daughters, Debbie Jane Carpenter Hall, Lori Helen (John) Dzurino and Terri Kim (Brian) Schultz, all of Washington; and seven grandchildren, Sarah Marino, Carin Carpenter Goffinet, Jonathan Dzurino, Devin Carpenter, Brandon Dzurino, Morgan Hall and Wray Schultz.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 26, with the Rev. Ben Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
