Henry Stanley Szotkowski, 87, of Washington, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, in Washington County Health Center.
He was born August 18, 1923, in Washington, a son of John Szotkowski and Rose Tarsia Szotkowski-Patalan.
Mr. Szotkowski graduated from Washington High School. As a corporal in the Marine Corps, he was a gunner aboard the USS Bunker Hill during World War II.
He enjoyed reading and was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church, the Elks, Pulaski Club and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
Until his retirement, Mr. Szotkowski worked in the family business, the Washington Foodland.
On January 5, 1947, he married Freda Ross, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sandy (Bernard) Gareis of Bulger and Sharon (Harold) Shrum of Tom’s River, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Brad Garris, Holly Kerwin and Heather Malloy; four great-grandchildren, Brian, Jake, Samantha and Michaelina; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Patricia Brezinski and Jennie Stucky.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
