Darrell Blaine Uphold, 73, of Washington, died Friday, July 16, 2010, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center, following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 1, 1936, in Hazelton, WV, a son of William Joseph and Amanda Jane Burch Uphold.
On January 11, 1955, he entered the U.S. Army, and served honorably until his discharge on January 10, 1957.
Mr. Uphold worked at Jessop Steel for thirty-four years, and was a private contractor in construction.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
He was Protestant by faith.
On April 28, 2001, he married Violet I. Reed Christopher, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tina (Glenn) Garbert, of California, and Julie Uphold; a step-daughter, Candace L. (Craig) Dunhoff, of Pittsburgh; a brother, Larry (Florence) Uphold, of West Virginia; three sisters, Izetta Jeffries, of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, Eileen (Jim) Hansell, of West Virginia; and Judy (Foster) Matthews, of Pisgah, West Virginia; two step grandchildren, Ava Grace and Jack Curtis Dunhoff; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 p.m., the hour of service, Monday, July 19, 2010, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating. Additional visitation will be held 2 to 3 p.m., the hour of service, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, in Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, 12 E. Main Street, Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, 26525. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Bruceton Mills, West Virginia.
