Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Veltre, 85, of Washington, died Sunday, June 13, 2010, in her residence.
She was born September 17, 1924, in Johnstown, a daughter of Curtis E. Havener and Elizabeth Favorite Havener.
Mrs. Veltre was a January 1943 graduate of Washington High School and attended Penn Commercial. Mrs. Veltre was a homemaker, accomplished seamstress and an avid reader. During World War II, she worked in the test lab at Jessop Steel.
On June 12, 1947, she married Joseph Patrick Veltre, Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Joseph P. “Pat” Veltre, Jr., of Washington, Gary (Becky) Veltre of Nineveh and John (Mary Ann) Veltre of Harrisville; twin daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Tom) Riddle of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Myra (Larry “Sonny”) Decker of Springfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Patty Havener of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Valerie Veltre, Joseph Riddle, Devlin Moyers, Holly Dalton, Meghan (John) Asher, Samuel Veltre, Joseph Veltre III, Sarah Veltre, Elizabeth Veltre, Logan Veltre and Curtis Veltre; and four great-grandchildren, Dilynn Riddle, Maya Riddle, Caroline Moyers and Skylar Asher.
Deceased are two brothers, Charles “Eddy” Havener and Curtis Eugene Havener.
Friends will be received 2 t o 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, with Father Nicholas Spirko officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
