Ethel Mae (Anderson) Griffin Asbury, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2010, at her home in Washington, Pa. Mrs. Asbury was born, raised and educated in Washington. She was the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Lillie May (Mosebay) Anderson. Her only sibling, Robert R. Anderson passed away in 1980 in Washington, D.C. Also deceased is a grandson, Michael P. Sluby, who died in 1984.
In 1935, Mrs. Asbury married John Harrison (Jay) Griffin, whose untimely death occurred four years later. Her second marriage, to Thomas H.L. Asbury in 1942, lasted forty years until his death in 1982.
Mrs. Asbury worked for a number of years at Washington and Jefferson College. In 1960 she and her husband, Thomas, relocated to Washington, D.C. There they became interested in antique glass and together established Tom_Et Glass Etcetera. They were well known antique glass dealers and due to their expertise, sometimes served as consultants. They specialized in Duncan and Miller Glass and were members of the National Duncan Glass Club of Maryland, Chapter #3 and the National Duncan Glass Society. Mrs. Asbury returned to her hometown in 2004 and remained actively involved in glass shows and in collecting.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara G. Stewart, of Washington, and Patricia G. (Charles) Scott, of Boston, Massachusetts; one son, Robert J. (Margaret) Griffin, of Carlsbad, California; five grandchildren, Paul E. Sluby, Jr. and Rene’ S. Sluby, of Washington, D.C., Thomas G. (Nancy) Sluby, of Ramsey, N.J., Kecia C. Hansard and Maieka J. Hansard, of Washington, D.C.; one great-grandson, Michael P. Sluby, of Ramsey, N.J.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
