Mary Elizabeth Medlen, 80, of Washington, died Monday, May 4, 2009, in her home, following a brief illness. She was born September 12, 1928, in Bakers Station, a daughter of Thomas Edward and Cora Etta Caldwell Moore. Mrs. Medlen was a member of Claysville Presbyterian Church. For 10 years, she worked at Western Center in the dietary and housekeeping departments. Her first husband, James Walter Medlen, is deceased. On November 18, 1964, she married Albert David Medlen Sr., who died July 2, 1999. Surviving are two sons, James (Janet) Loring Medlen of Washington and Albert David (Lorraine) Medlen Jr. of Clarksville; five daughters, Mary Etta (Dennis) Saffell of Avella, Donna Jean (Penne) Weaver of Scenery Hill, Nancy (Donald) Carpenter of New Freeport, Alberta Renee (Roy) Jackson of Moundsville, W.Va., and Tammy Lynn Medlen of Washington; two brothers, Dempsey "Buck" Moore of Elyria, Ohio, and Edward Moore of Amity; five sisters, Mabel Cross of Scenery Hill, Dorothy Scott of Kentucky, Grace Kiskadden of Banetown, Helen Main of Washington and Anna Mull of Canonsburg; 31 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a daughter, Mabel Marie Medlen; a sister, Nance Burgess; and three brothers, Thomas E. Moore, Harry Moore and Edgar Moore.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. At the request of the deceased, there will be no services.
