Korean War veteran, 23-year USPS letter carrier Jerald Lee Thompson, 75, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington. He had been in declining health for the past two years. He was born November 14, 1933, in Washington, a son of James and Esther Kisner Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years and also worked for 10 years for Giant Eagle. He was involved with the Postal Softball League and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Mr. Thompson attended West Washington United Methodist Church. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from July 7, 1953, until his honorable discharge July 6, 1956, with a rank of specialist, third class. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Surviving are a son, Dave Thompson; three daughters, Lisa (Ed) Radvansky, Michele Timko and Judy Swan, all of Washington; three brothers, Ronald Thompson and Clinton Thompson, both of Washington, and Brian Thompson of Biloxi, Miss.; a sister, Elaine Ross of Washington; seven grandchildren, Chastity, Rebecca, Jerry, Christy, Scott, Michael and Samantha; and four great-grandchildren. Deceased is a sister, Naomi, who died in infancy. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, with Pastor Jim York officiating. Private burial will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with military rites accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Memorial contributions may be made to Donnell House, Hospice Care of Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
