Samuel Charles Kelley, 85, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in Washington Hospital. He was born April 14, 1923, in Washington, a son of James Kelley Jr. and Mabel Roupe Kelley. Mr. Kelley entered the U.S. Army in 1939, serving in Company B, 7th Battalion. He received the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged September 3, 1946. He was a millwright at Union Camp Corp. for 34 years and was a former union president. Mr. Kelley was a member of Friendship Community Church and a life member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion. He enjoyed being outdoors and working on his farm. He also enjoyed hunting with his brothers when he was younger. On September 4, 1963, he married Martha Virginia Mackey, who died April 26, 2008. Surviving are two sons, Charles R. (Shirley) Kelley of New Iberia, La., and John (Jack) (Connie) Frazier of Washington; a daughter, Karen C. Sims of Washington; four brothers, J. Everett Kelley, Thomas E. Kelley, John R. Kelley and Dave H. Kelley, all of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a daughter, Betty Jane Pierson; a son, William J. Frazier; a grandson, Jack A. Frazier; a granddaughter, Virginia Sims; and three brothers, Walter, Edward and George Kelley. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in North Buffalo Church Cemetery.
