in U.S. Army during WWII
Kenneth C. Huffman, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, in Washington County Health Center, Char-tiers Township.
He was born August 5, 1923, in Greene County, a son of Forney J. and Violet E. Boyd Huffman.
Mr. Huffman worked as a tow motor driver at Brockway 7 for 33 years.
He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and AARP and was a mall walker.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from February 22, 1943, until his honorable discharge as a corporal November 30, 1945. He was involved in battles in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. For his service, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze service stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
On November 19, 1951, he married Ruth I. Adams, who died February 12, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy (John) Yarkosky and Carol (Raymond) O'Korn, both of Washington; three brothers, Warren D. Huffman of Fayetteville, Ga., Forney L. (Pete) Huffman of Washington and David R. (Dick) Huffman of Eighty Four; three sisters, Virginia Edwards and Betty DeJohn, both of Canonsburg, and Joann Reihner of Washington; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Beiswenger, Kayla Yarkosky, Shane Yarkosky, Lee Ann (George) Spencer, Renee (Matt) Dvorak and Raymond O'Korn III; and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Frederick, Robert, Lawrence and Theodore Huffman.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
