Donald Peter Alfono West, 85, of Washington, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, in Presbyterian Medical Center. He had been in declining health.
He was born June 5, 1925, in Washington, a son of Peter Alfono West and Rosina Martino West.
Mr. West was a graduate of Trinity High School. During World War II, he visited 35 countries during his 37 months in the Merchant Marines.
He was a member of the Three Rivers Chapter of Merchant Marines Vet.
For many years, Mr. West owned and operated Donald West Cleaning and Painting. He was a family man and avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, big game hunting and gardening.
Mr. West was Catholic.
In 1950, he married Helen Roth, who died May 25, 2008.
Surviving are three sons, Donald P. “Peter” (Robin) West, Jr., Danny (Roseanne) West and Dru West, all of Washington; three daughters, Donna West of Columbus, Ohio, Dayna West (Bob Mack) of Washington, and Dina (Carl) Nicolella of McMurray; two sisters, Rachel McCracken of Wyoming and Marilou Martin of California; and 12 grandchildren, Adam, Joe, Ty, Carl, Nick, Dee, Taylor, Abby, Dustin, Kris, Shawn and Nicole; and a great-grandchild, Levi.
Deceased are twin children, David and Dene West.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 2nd, in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg, with Father Pierre Sodini officiating.
