Earl Keith “Giz” Baumgardner, Jr., 61, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in his residence, following a four-year illness.
He was born October 10, 1948, in Washington, a son of the late Earl Keith Baumgardner, Sr.
After attending Washington High School, he entered the U. S. Army on September 21, 1967 and served with the 5th Army Combat Medic Brigade in Vietnam. For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Sharpshooter Medal, and was Honorably Discharged December 4, 1970.
Mr. Baumgardner was formerly employed by Molycorp, U.S. Steel, as a general contractor, and was owner of Bingo and More in Washington.
He enjoyed being an official of the F.O.E. 687 for eighteen years and running their bingo. He loved being outdoors, fishing, and playing Texas Hold-em.
On March 30, 2007, he married Deborah Baser, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Troy Mallinder and wife Kathy, of Warrenville, IL; a brother, Allan (Debbie) Baumgardener; two sisters, Jackie, and Lee Ann (Gerald) Vitteck, all of Washington; two grandchildren, Melissa and Alyson; two nieces and two nephews, Tara, Kelley, Brandon and Josh.
Deceased are his younger brother, Doug Baumgardner, Sr., a nephew, Doug Baumgardner, Jr. and his stepmother, Betty Baumgardner, who raised him.
Friends will be received 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. There will be no service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
